🧂 Ingredients
For the Beef & Broccoli
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, sliced thin against the grain
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
For the Sauce
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup beef broth or water
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional but recommended)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
For the Rice
- 2 cups white rice (jasmine or long-grain)
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
🍽️ Directions
1. Cook the Rice
- Rinse rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Add rice, water, salt, and butter to a pot.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Cover and cook 15 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the steam 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.
2. Prepare the Sauce
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, cornstarch, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Set aside.
3. Cook the Broccoli
- Bring a small pot of water to a boil.
- Add broccoli and blanch for 1–2 minutes until bright green.
- Drain and set aside.
4. Cook the Beef
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
- Add half of the sliced beef and sear for 1–2 minutes per side.
- Remove and repeat with the remaining beef using the second tablespoon of oil.
5. Combine Everything
- Return all beef to the skillet.
- Add garlic and ginger; cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in the sauce mixture.
- Stir and cook 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Add the broccoli and toss to coat evenly.
- Simmer on low for 1 minute to let flavors blend.
6. Serve
- Spoon warm white rice onto plates or bowls.
- Top generously with beef and broccoli.
- Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
