🧂 Ingredients

For the Beef & Broccoli

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, sliced thin against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)

For the Sauce

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup beef broth or water
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional but recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

For the Rice

  • 2 cups white rice (jasmine or long-grain)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)

🍽️ Directions

1. Cook the Rice

  1. Rinse rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Add rice, water, salt, and butter to a pot.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  4. Cover and cook 15 minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat and let the steam 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

2. Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, cornstarch, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Set aside.

3. Cook the Broccoli

  1. Bring a small pot of water to a boil.
  2. Add broccoli and blanch for 1–2 minutes until bright green.
  3. Drain and set aside.

4. Cook the Beef

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
  2. Add half of the sliced beef and sear for 1–2 minutes per side.
  3. Remove and repeat with the remaining beef using the second tablespoon of oil.

5. Combine Everything

  1. Return all beef to the skillet.
  2. Add garlic and ginger; cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the sauce mixture.
  4. Stir and cook 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add the broccoli and toss to coat evenly.
  6. Simmer on low for 1 minute to let flavors blend.

6. Serve

  1. Spoon warm white rice onto plates or bowls.
  2. Top generously with beef and broccoli.
  3. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
